Introduction
People are the most important asset of any business. These pages will be of interest to anyone responsible for training and recruiting in the software, semiconductor and electronics sectors. There are a number key issues which must be addressed to ensure an appropriately skilled workforce:
- there must be an appropriate pipeline of motivated potential employees from schools, colleges and universities
- the recruitment of world-class engineers and managers
- continual and aggressive upskilling of the entire workforce
The Strategic Skills Group of the Welsh Electronics Forum has been working for many years to address common issues. Driven by HR and Training professionals, the Strategic Skills Group has developed a number of useful programmes:
- media training for senior managers
- advertising service for vacancies, free to Welsh companies
- training for technicians, graduates, middle managers and team leaders.
As you will see from the “Careers” half of this website (click on "home" and follow the links), the Strategic Skills Group recognises the need to promote the Welsh electronics industry to both professionals as well as individuals at the beginning of the career ladder. It provides them with information on current vacancies and well as careers information for adults, graduates and school leavers. The Strategic Skills Group works closely with the Welsh Assembly Government, SEMTA and the e-Skills Sector Skills Councils (SSCs).
