Introduction

Welsh Electronics Forum logoThe Welsh Electronics Forum is an independent body which speaks with a single, unified voice for electronics, semiconductor, opto and software companies throughout Wales.

The Forum's main objective is to help the electronic sector to move up the value chain. It works with its partners to raise the profile and performance of the technology industry and to generate confidence in its resilience, innovativeness and competitiveness.

Strategy for the Technology Industry in Wales

Future success for the technology industry in Wales lies in high-value hardware and software design and manufacturing capabilities, driven by an entrepreneurial culture.

The Welsh Electronics Forum is continually monitoring the issues which affect its members and has a three-point plan for addressing these issues:

  1. increasing recognition of the sector and its needs
  2. raising the skills base
  3. ensuring that public-sector support for business development is demand-led

To achieve this success, there is a need to create high-quality employment rather than increasing the numbers of low-skilled jobs. Whilst maintaining our existing quality jobs, this will eventually increase employment at all levels.

The Forum recognises the need to tailor support and to encourage business development and growth. We are working closely with the Welsh Assembly Government to ensure that we raise the skills base within the sector.
